I love the ambiance, the people, and their skills. I've gone to various barbers around Petaluma over the years, and although my haircuts turned out better from barbershops than at places like Great Clips, I never left loving my cut until it grew out a bit. I've also never been good at scheduling appointments. I'd let my hair grow unwieldy until I couldn't stand it, and then I'd impulsively get it cut. For the most part, the only places open were places like Great Clips. I cut my hair short, and places like Great Clips aren't specialized in doing fades, using razors, or doing short haircuts, and they let that be known, and since I hadn't found a place I loved, I didn't care where I got a haircut since I didn't love the outcome anyway. As long as it looked more clean, I was fine with it. I experienced loving my cut after leaving a barbershop for the first time this past October, and I've been getting my hair cut short since 2010. My barber was Danny. I showed him pictures of past haircuts and told him what I was going for, and he delivered it to a T. On their website, it says, "Our focus is not only on providing top-notch grooming services, but also instilling confidence and creating a sense of community among our clients." I left the shop feeling and looking great, and it felt wonderful. Their shop also has a great community vibe. All of the barbers are super friendly, chill, and welcoming, and I've gotten the same vibes from their other clients. When I was with one of my nephews while he got his haircut, a customer turned to me as he was leaving, smiled, and said about my nephew, "He's a good-looking kid." This past October was my first time there. I was Googling queer-friendly barbershops because when I pay for services, I want to feel safe and welcomed, and I found Authentic's Barbershop on a list. Although I look like a stereotypical lesbian, I still suss out spaces I'm in and gauge whether it's safe to talk about queer things when the topic arises. When my barber, Danny, asked about what I do and how I spend my time, I mentioned that I was on the board of an LGBTQIA+ organization, and from his response, I knew it was a safe space to talk about it and just be. Also, as a Mexican-American, I love the Chicano culture of the barbershop and that I'm supporting bilingual barbers who grew up in Petaluma from immigrant Latine families. I recommended Authentic's Barbershop to both of my sisters for two of my nephews, 10 and 7 years old, and I got to be there for both of their first barbershop experiences. Junior was their barber, and he did a fantastic job. He's super skilled and so welcoming. They both loved their cuts. Authentic's Barbershop does cuts for all ages. I've seen them cut kids' hair who looked to be about 2 years old. When my 10-year-old nephew was getting his hair cut, another kid about his age got their hair cut next to him. My 10-year-old nephew, who is all about style, kept on raving about his his experience and the outcome. He couldn't wait for his friends to see his new haircut. Authentic's Barbershop is going to be his new place from now on, and from my first visit, I knew it was going to be mine, as well. I already went back to them, and I'm looking forward to future visits. If you're looking for a barbershop, I can't recommend Authentic's Barbershop enough. Less
